Dieser Funk Style ist eine der zwei Grundformen des heutigen Hip Hop und New Style und basiert auf fest vorgegebenen Basicmoves, für die es unzählige Variationen gibt. Locking ist ein positiver, kommunikativer Tanz der cartoonartige Moves wie Points, Wristrolls, Handclaps und Locks beinhaltet, sowie die Schritte Skeeter Rabbit, Scooby Doo, Scoobot Hop, Stop And Go oder dem Campbell Walk. Heute profitieren Gwen Steffani, Mya, Missy Elliot etc. von der einzigartigen Dynamik des Locking.

In den 70er Jahren wurde Locking von Don Campbellock und seiner Dance Crew „The Lockers“ ins Leben gerufen und durch Künstler wie James Brown und die Jackson 5 Weltberühmt. Damals wie heute begeistert Locking durch seinen kommunikativen Style und den hohen Wiedererkennungswert.
